Fail to go live from business pages when streaming to Facebook Live

Director has supported streaming to business pages for Facebook Live since V3.2. For users who cannot stream to business pages, you can follow the below steps. Upgrade your firmware to a newer version (V3.2.1273 and above). Go to Facebook > Settings & privacy > Business integrations, remove Director from "Active". Log out your account on the Director device. Log in your account again and finish the authentication. Tap Post To, find your business page, and select it. Go back to the main screen and then start streaming to Facebook Live.

When using USB Capture series devices, only one resolution can be configured in capture software such as OBS

This may be due to the camera settings in Windows 11, and you’ll need to adjust the default camera configurations. Click the Windows "Start" button, then navigate to "Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras". In the "Bluetooth & devices > Cameras" window, select the desired camera from the list, such as USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro. Click the "Edit" button of "Advanced camera options". Turn off "Allow multiple apps to use camera at the same time". If you need multiple apps to use camera at the same time, you can turn on the switch. And then you can select the camera resolution from "Media type". The current options include 640x360, 2560x1440, 1920x1080, 1280x720.  

Bluetooth Audio Relative Questions

Q1: Why can't Bluetooth devices achieve simultaneous audio input and output? A: Bluetooth audio supports two primary working modes: A2DP mode: Enables high-quality one-way audio transmission (e.g., headphones receiving media audio from a device) and requires master-slave role switching. This is the working mode of the Director device. SCO mode: Supports two-way call voice transmission but only up to 8k/16k. The Director does not support this mode.   Q2: Why is the device restart required when switching Bluetooth audio input/output functions? A: The Android system currently does not support hot-swapping of Bluetooth working modes. A device restart is necessary to reconfigure the mode, ensuring the Bluetooth function operates normally in the target mode.   Q3: Can simultaneous audio input and output be achieved when connecting to a phone via Bluetooth? A: No. Currently, the Director operates in A2DP mode and does not support establishing the corresponding two-way audio connection with a phone. Therefore, simultaneous audio input and output on the phone side cannot be realized via Bluetooth.

Director Plus Multi-Channel Encoding Capability and Typical Configurations

Q1: What is the multi-channel encoding capability of Director Plus? A: Director Plus allows you to configure multiple encoding schemes with different resolutions, frame rates, and bitrates. All encoding schemes can be flexibly assigned to live streaming, recording, and replay. The same encoding scheme can be used simultaneously for streaming, recording, and replay without consuming additional encoding resources. Lower resolutions and frame rates require fewer encoding resources, allowing more concurrent encoding tasks. Q2: How does enabling NDI streaming affect the encoding capability for other services? A: NDI streaming uses dedicated encoding schemes. When NDI streaming is enabled, the encoding resources available for live streaming, recording, and replay will be reduced accordingly.  Q3: What are the typical encoding combinations for different show quality levels? A: Director Plus supports three show quality levels: 2160p (4K), 1440p, and 1080p. Typical encoding combinations for each show quality level are shown below. A maximum of 12 encoding tasks can run concurrently (4 streams, 4 recordings, 4 replays). Note: The combinations below assume ideal operating conditions. How to use an external screen and touchscreen on Director Plus

Q1: How to connect an external screen to Director Plus? A: Director Plus can be connected to external screens through the HDMI OUT 1 and 2 ports. It can also use the USB-C Out port for DP output, to connect an external screen or other devices supporting DP signal. You can go to > Settings > USB Out and then select DP mode. Connect a monitor, HDTV or other device to the HDMI OUT 1/2 port or USB OUT port of Director Plus. The external screen setting page will pop up on the device. Select the content to be displayed on the external screen. Program: output program signal Preview: output preview signal Multi-view: display 8 video boxes showing scene thumbnails at the bottom, and two larger boxes at the top, with the left one showing Preview view and the right one showing Program view. Mirror: duplicate all the elements on the main screen of Director Plus. If it is connected with a touchscreen, you can control the device via the touchscreen, referring to Q2. Loop HDMI: select to loop out the signal from HDMI 1/2/3/4. Loop WEBCAM: select to loop out the signal from WEBCAM 1/2. Loop Stream: select to loop out a stream signal or phone camera signal. Third-party App: select to loop out the signal from a running third-party app. If it is connected with a touchscreen, you can control the app via the touchscreen, referring to Q2. Select the rotation angle to fit for the external screen: rotate 90° to left, or rotate 90° to right. For the third-party app, you can tap +/- to zoom the image. Tap "Resolution" to set the output resolution. It uses auto settings by default. (Optional) Tap  to go to the settings page of HDMI Out or USB Out, to implement more settings. Tap X to go back. To change the settings of the external screen, swipe down from the top-left of the device screen, and then tap External Screen on the Control Center to open the external screen setting window. Or swipe down from the top-right of the device screen to open the external screen setting window. Q2: How to control Director Plus with an External Touchscreen A: When Director Plus is connected to an external touchscreen in Mirror mode, you can control the device directly from the touchscreen. A larger display provides a more comfortable workspace for scene editing, annotation, and other operations. If an app is displayed through the video output, you can also control the app from the touchscreen. Requirements The touchscreen must support driver-free HID multi-touch. Select Mirror or the desired App as the display output. Connect via HDMI OUT Connect the HDMI OUT port on Director Plus to the HDMI input of the touchscreen. Connect the touchscreen's Touch (USB) port to any USB port on Director Plus. If touch functionality does not work, refer to your touchscreen's user manual for any required settings. Connect via USB-C OUT Go to > Settings > USB Out and then select DP mode. Connect the USB-C OUT port on Director Plus directly to the touchscreen using a Type-C to Type-C cable. If your touchscreen is connected through a USB-C adapter, also connect the touchscreen's Touch (USB) port to any USB port on Director Plus. If touch functionality does not work, refer to your touchscreen's user manual for any required settings. Notes Set the touchscreen to full-screen mode. Make sure the touchscreen uses the same display orientation as Director Plus.  

How to export crash log of Director Plus

If you experience a crash while using Director device, you can export the crash log and send the file to Magewell in one of the following ways so that we can locate and resolve the problem for you. Export with a computer: Set the device to MTP mode (default), or if it is set to UVC+UAC mode, go to " > Settings > USB Out" and select "MTP Mode". Connect the device to your computer using the USB Out port. Open Director device on your computer, zip the entire "Android/data/com.magewell.director/files/xcrash" folder and send the zip file to Magewell via the ticket system. Export with the Director device: Tap > Feedback > Generate log file. Tap Generate logs to create a ZIP file in the internal storage, which can record the issue that has just occurred. (Optional) Tap Export to copy the file to an SD card or USB flash drive. If you need to capture logs for issues that occurred a while ago: Enable the permanent log storage switch. Reproduce the issue. Tap Generate logs and then export the file as needed. Disable the permanent log storage switch to avoid excessive storage usage. You can tap " > Feedback > Submit new feedback" to submit the log to the ticket system.

Why it cannot find or connect to the hotspot of Director Plus

Q1: Why can't some devices find the hotspot of Director Plus? A: The Director Plus broadcasts the hotspot on the 6GHz Wi-Fi by default. Some client devices (such as devices that only support 5GHz Wi-Fi) may be unable to discover the hotspot. Solution: Go to " > Settings > Network > Hotspot & tethering" and enable the "Extend compatibility" switch. Once enabled, the hotspot will switch to 5GHz Wi-Fi, allowing more devices to discover it, although the connection speed may be slightly reduced. If the hotspot still cannot be found, tap "Security" and change the security mode from WPA3-Personal to WPA2-Personal, which provides better compatibility with older devices. Note: When Extend compatibility is enabled, the hotspot uses 5GHz Wi-Fi. When Extend compatibility is disabled, the hotspot uses 6GHz Wi-Fi. Q2: Why can my phone find the hotspot but fail to connect? A: The device uses WPA3-Personal security by default. Some older phones or client devices do not support WPA3, which may cause the connection to fail. Solution: Go to " > Settings > Network > Hotspot & tethering" and enable the "Extend compatibility" switch. The "Security" option will then appear on the page. Change the security mode from WPA3-Personal to WPA2-Personal, which provides better compatibility with older devices. If the connection still fails, go to " > Settings > Network",  and check the hotspot IP address. If it conflicts with your phone's network, tap  to change the IP address. Q3: Why is my hotspot Wi-Fi frequency different from what I expected? A：The hotspot Wi-Fi frequency may depend on the Wi-Fi network connection used by the Director Plus. For example, if the Director Plus connects to a router using 5GHz Wi-Fi, the hotspot may also use 5GHz Wi-Fi. If the router uses 6GHz Wi-Fi, the hotspot may also use 6GHz Wi-Fi.

Configure Audio Inputs for Zoom Rooms on USB Capture Plus/Pro

This article describes how to configure audio input selection for USB Capture Plus or USB Capture Pro devices to work with Zoom Rooms using the USB Capture Utility. These models feature 3.5mm audio input/output jacks in addition to HDMI/SDI embedded audio.   3.5mm audio jack for microphone/headphones        3.5mm audio jack for Line In/ Line Out                When a USB Capture Plus/Pro is connected, it exposes three independent audio input sources (Record Devices) to the system: Record Device Description Mic / Line In External analog audio signal from the 3.5mm input jack HDMI / SDI Embedded digital audio extracted from the video Computer Audio playback from the host computer   Starting from Zoom Rooms version 7.2.0, embedded audio that comes with the HDMI/SDI video data is prioritized as the primary input source. If no embedded audio is detected in the video source, the system automatically falls back to the Mic/Line In analog input. Computer playback audio is given the lowest priority. As audio requirements may vary per room, users can manually select a different input source using the USB Capture Utility tool. Once configured, Zoom Rooms will consistently use the selected audio input until new settings are applied.   Configuration Steps Launch USB Capture Utility and confirm that the device is detected. Navigate to Advanced→ Audio Control. The Record Device section lists the three audio sources, each with an independent checkbox. By default, all three are checked (Fig.1). Users may specify a preferred record device to avoid potential issues caused by incorrect audio source selection. Checked: The audio source is enabled and available as an input Unchecked: The audio source is disabled and will not appear in application audio input options Example (HDMI model): If analog audio input is desired during screen sharing, uncheck HDMI and Computer, leaving only Mic enabled (Fig.2).   Fig.1 Default selection (all three checked)   Fig.2 Customized selection (Mic only) After making the selection, click Save to Device, then click Confirm in the pop-up dialog. Once the settings are saved, disconnect and reconnect the device for the new audio configuration to take effect. Q1: How many NDI High Bandwidth streams can Director Plus decode simultaneously? A: Director Plus supports concurrent decoding of 1 channel of 4Kp60 NDI High Bandwidth stream, or 2 to 3 channels of 1080p60 NDI High Bandwidth streams.   Q2: What precautions should be taken when decoding 4Kp60 NDI High Bandwidth streams? A: 4K streams without an Alpha (transparency) channel can be decoded normally. However, 4K streams with Alpha channels may suffer choppy decoding due to hardware performance constraints. If you need to use streams with transparency channels, it is recommended to switch to a 1080p resolution.
