Are Magewell capture devices hardware compression cards or software compression cards?

Magewell capture devices are software compression cards. What is software compression card? The video is captured by hardware and compressed by software. What is hardware compression card? The video is captured and compressed both by hardware.

Can the HDMI-4K card with two HDMI interfaces capture two 4K video stream at the same time?

No. Only one interface can capture video at a time. When both interfaces have data passing through, you can choose one channel to capture video.

How to capture 3D signals

1Download the driver Go to Download Center > Product Family, select GN1, and then download the driver. 2Modify the INF file of the driver and then install the driver Open the XI200XE_MINI.inf file in the driver directory. Look for the line where the string "EnableCombinedVideo" locates, and then change "0x00010001,0" to "0x00010001,1" at the end of the line. Save the INF file and then install the driver. 3Add the video capture device Run DirectShow or SDK and a new combined video equipment will be enumerated (by default, only two video capture device can be enumerated). You can go to Download Center > Capture SDK to download SDK. 4Record the 3D video Open the Combined video device, and then the 3D signal will be transmitted through two DVI-I interfaces and capture as a side-by-side 3D video.

How to adjust volume on Windows

Adjust the volume of playback device Right-click the Volume icon in the Windows Taskbar, and then select Playback devices from the context menu to open the Sound dialog box. In the Playback tab page of the Sound dialog box, select the playback device that is related to your capture device and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box of playback device, enter the Levels tab page and then adjust the volume of playback device. Adjust the volume of recording device In the Recording tab page of the Sound dialog box (which has been mentioned at step 1 in Adjust the volume of playback device), select the recording device that is related to your capture device and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box of recording device, enter the Levels tab page and then adjust the volume of recording device. If there is any problem with the volume adjustment when you are using Pro Capture Family/Eco Capture Family/First Generation Capture Device, please update the driver to the latest version.

In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers, then you will find Magewell capture devices.

Will the recorded file be damaged if the input signal is lost during recording?

Signal loss will not damage the recording file. However, during the period of losing input signal, the captured images will be all black.

Do Magewell products support HANC/VANC data extraction?

Both the Pro Capture and Eco Capture Family's SDI capture cards support HANC/VANC data extraction. Note that you must use the Magewell SDK to do this.

Short FAQs about First Generation Capture Device

Can Gen 1 XI devices use the drivers of Gen 2 Pro Capture devices? No. Do XI100DUSB-SDI devices support 3Gb SDI video format? No. But USB Capture SDI Gen 2 support this video format. Are Gen 1 XI devices compatible with Windows 10? Yes. Where can I download the driver of Gen 1 XI devices? Please click here to download the driver. Are USB Capture Gen 1 devices compatible with USB Capture Utility V3? No. USB Capture Gen 1 devices is only compatible with USB Capture Utility V2. The Gen 1 XI100DUSB-HDMI (silver) device can be compatible with USB Capture Utility V3 after it’s firmware is upgraded (see How to connect XI100DUSB-HDMI device with USB Capture Utility V3). Are there any Linux drivers for Gen 1 XI devices? No.
